Luz; or Light is an entity that
makes things visible or affords illumination . . . And is a great
source of inspiration to me. This blog is a collection of things
and people that inspire.

Look to this day! For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course Lie all the verities and realities of your existence; The bliss of growth The glory of action Splendor of achievement, For yesterday is but a dream And tomorrow is only a vision, But today well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness And tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well, therefore to this day! Such is the salutation to the dawn.
"my most enduring ambition will have been to disengage this unknown character from the most apparently trivial facts of my life to the most meaningful" andre breton, mad love (p.24)
and i'll bury myself so deep inside you and i'll be your tragedy and you won't have to find it anywhere else, pay for it on movie screens and play it in your songs, i can be all the tragedy you need and i'll tell you all my stories and you'll look so serious and maybe you'll cry and you'll say you're so sorry you're so sorry and i'll write myself onto your palms onto your lips you'll swallow me hard you'll wonder if you're one of my stories too and one day the back of your hand will run into my cheekbone.
your hand will run into my cheekbone and i'll become sand.
the times you fell in love me with were: when i ran out of the store and you found me on the floor in the bathroom and i would not stop shaking. when i could not breathe on the bench. when i borrowed scissors from your mother to cut up my pills and did not brush my hair. i am running out of reasons for you to love me even before the piss yellow snow melts and you know it is up to you now. you love me best with a wet face and swollen lips and i don't mind much.
sometime in december i run out of the house with no shoes and it is the first time i have left for a week. i cross ashland and stare at the ground and there is no one to see me, past the laundromat where you buy me gum and rubber bouncy balls while we wait for the bleach to take away that week's accidents. the laundromat is owned by a very nice hispanic man and it is called soapy's. that's where we tell people to turn left to come visit us but no one comes anymore. it's so quiet at night here and then the freight train goes by and i regret not getting to the tracks sooner just to be close to the sound. you watch tv and imagine my body crushed by boxes carrying lumber, cars, and children's cold medicine.
Helena [inne.day-lab.com] has been an inspiration to me for quite some time now. I purchased the book a while back and love the simplicity and unsettling quality, in both her photographs and writing. You can purchase the book at Lazyline Records
http://www.notcot.com/archives/2008/06/walles_eve_desc.php just saw pixars new movie Wall-E (sorry alana and cisco, but we can go see wanted) and it was awesome. here are some of the robot characters from the movie which were helped designed by one of Apple's designers Jonathan Ives, thats why they look so damn good. if you haven't yet seen the movie i highly recommend it. there is an important message about taking care of our planet and a kind of disturbing yet light hearted look into the future of the human species.
These posters are by Eric Smith, a graphic designer who was recently diagnosed with cancer . I love how simple, inspiring and powerful they are, all at the same time. Proceeds are donated to the Live Strong Foundation, but sales are put on hold since he's currently undergoing treatment. I'm planning to purchase the green one. Hope he gets better soon.

"My photographs are primarily a documentation of a physical evolution. I have changed a common object into sculpture in a state of flux.
The way we choose to research and find information is also in an evolution. I hope to raise questions about these changes, the ephemeral and fragile nature in which we now obtain knowledge, and the future of books."
